Om Sathguru Sri Seshadri Swamigal Thiruvadikkae

  • In order to realize God a devotee should relate to God in a certain way – one should regard Him as either a friend, a parent, husband or a child.
  • You find no difficulty in driving a nail into a mud wall. But its points break if you try to drive it against a stone wall and still it will not pierce it. There are people whose spiritual consciousness is not at all awakened even though they hear about God a thousand times. They are like a crocodile, on whose hide you cannot make any impression with a sword.
  • What good is there in reading a whole lot of scriptures? What good is there in the study of philosophy? What is the use of talking big?
  • In order to learn archery one should first aim at a banana tree, then at a reed, then at a wick, and last at a flying bird.
  • At the beginning one should concentrate on God with form.
  • The harmful effect of the study of the scriptures is that it encourages reasoning and arguing. If you repeat the Gita ten times it is reversed into ‘tagi’, which indicates renunciation.
  • The way to realize God is through discrimination, renunciation, and yearning for Him.
  • What kind of yearning? One should yearn for God as the cow, with yearning heart, runs after its calf. One can attain spiritual consciousness through both affirmation and negation. There is the positive path of love and devotion, and there is the negative path of knowledge and discrimination.

When you preach the path of knowledge (addressing a pundit), it creates a very difficult situation: the guru and the disciple do not see each other!

  • Sukadeva went to Janaka for instruction about the knowledge of Brahman (Para-Brahma – the Lord of Universe). Janaka said to him: “You must pay me the Guru’s fee in advance. When you attain the knowledge of Brahman you won’t pay me the fee, because the knower of Brahman sees no difference between the Guru and the disciple.”
  • Both negation and affirmation are ways to realize one and the same goal. Infinite are the opinions and infinite are the ways. But you must remember one thing:
      • The injunction is that the path of devotion described by Narada is best suited to the Kaliyuga. According to this path, first comes bhakthi: then bhava, when bhakthi is mature. Higher than bhava, are mahabhava and prema.

      • He who has achieved these has realized the goal that is to say, have attained God.
  • While preaching (addressing the pundit), eliminate the ‘head and tail’, that is to say, emphasize only the essentials.
  • Immerse yourself for evermore, O mind, In Him who is pure knowledge and Pure Bliss.”
  • Live in the world like an ant. The world contains a mixture of truth and untruth, sugar and sand. Be an ant and take the sugar. Live in the world like a mudfish. The fish lives in the mud, but its skin is always bright and shiny.
  • The world is indeed a mixture of truth and make-believe. Discard the make-believe and take the truth.
  • Dedicate every action to the Lord and there will be no place for ego. That is the quickest way for the ego to subside.
  • Energy arises from surrender to God. God is positive. Man is negative. If contact is made, the divine current flows from positive to negative (the Indian tradition of touching a divine person).

THE ROSE IS BEAUTIFUL, FRAGRANT AND VERY SOFT TO TOUCH. EVERY ONE IS FOND OF A ROSE BECAUSE OF THE QUALITIES IT POSSESSES. BUT THE ROSE ITSELF IS SURROUNDED BY THORNS.

EVEN AS ONE PLUCKS THE ROSE BY CAREFULLY REMOVING THE THORNS, ONE MUST LEARN TO MEET THE TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS OF THE EARTHLY EXISTENCE WITH PATIENCE, AND WORSHIP GOD WITH UNFLAGGING FAITH AND CONVICTION.

Om Sathguru Sri Seshadri Swamigal Thiruvadikkae

When God comes taking a human form, it is very difficult to see Him as the Lord! One sees that body, then one’s own body, and one cannot but relate the two and put that body at the same level as oneself.

But if the Lord came in all His majesty, people would be afraid and would not have any opportunity to know and love the Lord. For example, people worship an image of a snake in a temple, hoping that the worship will bring a child.

But if the snake becomes alive and wriggled across the floor towards them, they would take to their heels. People could not stand the Lord in Super-human form. It is only when the Lord comes in human body that people are able to approach Him and learn to love Him and know Him even a little bit. But one should not make the mistake of thinking that is all there is to the Lord.

For instance, the airplane flying high in the sky descends to the airport. But one should not make the mistake of thinking that the plane is a ground machine because they see it on the ground. Once it has taken on its load of passengers, it again zooms up high into the sky. In a similar fashion, although the Lord has made a landing here on earth so to speak, He is not limited by His human form.

Om Sathguru Shri Seshadri Swamigal Thiruvadikkae

Your reality is the Athma (God viewed as the particular), a wave of the Paramathma (God viewed as the universal). The one object of this human existence is to visualize that Reality, that Athma, – the relationship between the wave and the sea. All other activities are trivial; you share them with birds and beasts; but this is the unique privilege of man. He has clambered through all levels of animalism, all the steps in the ladder of evolution in order to inherit this high maturity. If his years between birth and death are frittered away in seeking food, shelter, comfort and pleasure as animals do, man is condemning himself to a further life sentence.

FOR, THE INDIVIDUAL AND THE UNIVERSAL ARE ONE; THE WAVE IS THE SEA. MERGING FULFILS. WHEN MERGED, THE EGO IS DISSLOVED; ALL SYMBOLS AND SIGNS OF THE PARTICULAR LIFE, NAME, FORM, CASTE, CREED, NATIONALITY, TEMPLE, CHURCH, MOSQUE, SECT AND THE RIGHTS AND DUTIES CONEQUENT THEREON, WILL FADE.

For such individuals, (Avathars and Sathgurus), who have liberated themselves from the narrowness of individuality, the only task is the upliftment of humanity, the welfare of the world, and the showering of love. Even if they are quiet, the state of bliss in which they exist, will shower bliss on the world. Love is in all, love is of all, and love is all.

When people forget the one and run after the many, Dharma declines; for there can be no love, no sacrifice, and no detachment in human affairs then. So, the Lord takes human form and comes to restore man’s sense of values. This is the Avathar.

Om Sathguru Sri Seshadri Swamigal Thiruvadikkae

A Sathpurusha is essentially the Parameshwara, and is capable of anything. The devotee also possesses the state of Parameshwara. If the devotee strives sincerely in his pursuit of God, the Sathpurusha will do whatever it takes to get you there.

If you desire to have that Godhead, you have to serve the One who has already reached that state. Worship God, and God will help you. And thus you will raise yourself to a state even higher to that of Parameshwara.

Ways to endear the Guru and the Lord: A Good Life

We should always worship Him.

We should abide by Truth and Non-violence.

We should practise Charity.

We should seek the company of good men.

We should fulfill the duties imposed by our station in life.

We should carry out penances involving the three tools (mind, speech, and body).

We should not discard the practices laid down from ages past.

We should stay away from people who mean ill-will.

We should not lose faith with in our Guruji’s mantra.

We should not ridicule our Guru.

These will confer blessings in the present life and future.

Om Sathguru Shri Seshadri Swamigal Thiruvadikkae” is our way to God…
