How to meditate? – Awakening of the Spiritual Vision by Swamigal

E.S. Ramaswamy Sastriar was a Sub-Magistrate in Thiruvannamalai. He had great devotion to Swamiji. As per his usual routine, one day he started his meditation at 4 a.m. But he was finding it very difficult to control his mind. His mind was swinging from one end to another and he could not focus on spirituality.

Our Swamiji came to know this by His Power of Gnana Drishti, He came to Magistrate’s house and knocked at his door. Sastriar opened the door and was overjoyed. To a query from Swamiji as to what he was doing, he prostrated and told Swamiji that he was trying to mediate but it was not successful.

On hearing this, Swamiji asked him to open his mouth and put two of His fingers beneath the tongue and pressed them down. That very instant, Sastriar forgot himself and was immersed in the joy of Self-illumination and swooned! He recovered after half an hour. Swamiji then advised him and departed from there.

After the incident, Sastriar’s nature underwent a radical change. He became a man of peace. He used to recite the following slokas recalling the opening of this Spiritual Vision by Swamiji:

I bow to Lord Sesha, and offer Him my Salutations – The Supreme Mahaan, who Blessed me with the experience of the Para-Brahmman (The Divine Consciousness), in my physical frame, by His Gracious touch with His two fingertips in my mouth!

I am blessed! I have reaped the fruits of my good deeds! – As I have been been Graced by my Supreme Guru, who is the embodiment of Benevolence and Compassion, to whom I bow, and offer my Salutations!

I bow to Lord Seshadri, who has opened my eyes to True Knowledge, [with (the collyrium (eye-salve) of Knowledge], that had been blinded by the darkness of ignorance!

To Him I offer my Salutations!

One who cultivates the heart’s natural love obtains the guidance of a Guru, and starts his Sadana (Path of spiritual discipline). He becomes a pravartaka, an initiate.

Man, when endowed with the heavenly gift of pure love, naturally becomes disposed to avoid the company of what is Asath and to keep the company of what has been described as Sath.”

Disciple:

What is true initiation?

Master:

Without initiation, all actions and rituals are fruitless. Without initiation, spiritual perfection can’t be attained. The Guru transmits his own inner soul, his Shakthi, his teaching, and his message directly into the disciple. According to scriptures, this initiation merges the individual soul into Shiva and annihilates its separateness. Initiation leads to spiritual perfection. How can such an initiation be a mere formality?

A Master whose Kundalini has been completely activated through the grace of the Guru and who has the blessing of the Kundalini can fully awaken the Kundalini of his disciples. To transmit just a partial awakening is not of great importance. It is possible for one to experience partial awakening by just being in the company of disciples whose Kundalini has been activated by a Guru. One must also consider how far such an awakening will take a person. There are many in the world who are able to induce a partial awakening, but to awaken the Kundalini effectively, one must have attained complete realization, been blessed by one’s own Guru and the Supreme Power and received their command to perform Kundalini awakening. One should receive as the gift of his Guru, the blessing that empowers him to awaken the Kundalini of others. Only a Guru who has been empowered by the blessings of the Supreme power and his own Guru can awaken the Kundalini permanently.

Disciple:

Sometimes we work with people who are very disturbed, and their disturbance reaches a place inside us where we are ourselves disturbed in the same way. I wonder how, when working up to them, one could avoid taking in things that are not good?

Master:

Healers or Therapists sometimes do absorb the negative influences of their patients. In many cases it happens that they start out as therapists and end up as patients. A woman healer came up to me and said, “when I started, I was doing a good job, helping people well… Now however, my arms and legs have begun to ache terribly and are nearly paralyzed. What should I do?”

This is the common complaint of therapists and healers who have come to see me, and this is exactly what happens to me too, when I provide initiation or blessings. It pains me quite a bit, but afterwards I sit quietly in meditation, and through the force of the Divine energy (Universal energy) that is released in high meditation (the Kundalini Shakti-Sahasrara-Meditation), my Guru burns up all those negative energies. This is how I stay fresh.

Therapists and healers should also find a way to burn up the impurities they absorb from their patients. It is not enough to become drunk on your temporary success as a healer. You must think about the future and what may happen to you as a result of your healing work. It is essential for a therapist to be in touch with his inner energy (inner Guru – creator) and to keep himself strong.
