Om SathGuru Sri Seshadi Swamigal Thiruvadikkae

Mahaan Sri Seshadri Swamigal

Self-Illumination (Self-Realization) – Attained by a devotee of

Sri Seshadri Swamigal of Thiruvannamalai by His magical touch

“The camphor has lit up, what could I do?”

Murugesa Mudaliar of Chittoor (A.P.) was the co-brother of Sivaprakasa Mudaliar, the police prosecuting Inspector at Thiruvannamalai. He had retired as a Sub- Registrar. Having heard so much about Swamiji, he developed a yearning to see him. On one occasion he had to come to Thiruvannamalai with his entire family to attend to some obsequies. At that time he met Swamiji and prostrated before him. One day he prayed to Swamiji to impart spiritual knowledge. Seeing his pure heart and strength of determination, Swamiji one day took him to the sanctum of Lord Muruga (Lord Kartik) at the Kambathu Illayanar Shrine, made him sit down and lightly pressed his head with right hand. Right away, Self-Illumination dawned on Murugesa Mudaliar, who became ecstatic and jumped with joy.

He ran out shouting loudly, “Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Seshadri Seshadri!” He danced, sang and jumped up, and down. He did not even notice that his dhoti had slipped off. He was totally bereft of so-called decency and his body senses. People started gathering wondering whether it was a disease or what. Siva Prakasa Mudaliar and other relatives were un-nerved and asked Swamiji what had happened.

Swamiji replied, “He is Pattinathu Pillai (a saint of that name in his previous birth) and was ready for spiritual instruction and sought it and I imparted the same.”

The camphor has lit up, what could I do?”

Siva Prakasa Mudaliar and other relatives ran after him. For two or three days he was in ecstasy and ran to Ramanashram and other places shouting Rama Nama and doing things in a peculiar manner and did not pay any heed to the relatives plea to come back. Therefore Siva Prakasa Mudaliar requested Swamiji to bring him back home. By chance Swamiji saw him near the Sadhu Chatram and in gentle voice told him, “You can go home.” Immediately after that Murugesa Mudaliar returned to his co-brother’s house.

Siva Prakasa Mudaliar saw Swamiji that midnight at the temple of Lord Muruga (Lord Karthik) (Kambathu Ilayanar Srine situated inside Sri Arunachaleshwar Temple). Swamiji told him that Murugesa Mudaliar could not bear the illumination. It worked on his brain. Since that was very powerful, it will take few days to become normal. Accordingly, he became perfectly peaceful and returned to his normal self after few days. Later he was living at Chittoor as a spiritually enlightened person.

Love rules the court, the camp, the grove,

The men below and saints above,

For love is heaven and heaven is love.”

Om Sathguru Sri Seshadri Swamigal Thiruvadikkae

In order to realize God a devotee should relate to God in a certain way – one should regard Him as either a friend, a parent, husband or a child.

I am Brahmamayi’s handmaid….”

  1. Some souls realize God without practicing any spiritual discipline. They are called Nitya-siddha; eternally perfect.
  2. Those who have realized God through austerity, japa, and the like, are called Sadhana-siddha; perfect through spiritual discipline.
  3. Again, there are that called Kripa-siddha, perfect through divine grace. These last may be compared to a room kept dark a thousand years that becomes light the moment a lamp is brought in.
  4. There is also a class of devotees, Hathat-siddha, that is to say, those who have suddenly attained God-vision. Their case is like that of a poor boy who has suddenly found favour with a rich man. The rich man marries his daughter to the boy and along with her gives him land, house, carriage, servants, and so forth.
  5. There is still another class of devotees, the Swapna-siddha, who have had the vision of God in a dream.

** The Nitya-siddha is in a class of devotees apart. He is like the arani wood (a piece of wood for kindling the sacred fire). A slight friction produces fire. The Nitya-siddha realizes God by practicing little spiritual discipline and sometimes without practicing any at all. But he does practice spiritual discipline after realizing God. He is like the gourd or pumpkin vine – first fruit, then flower.

– Prahaladha is an instance of Nitya-siddha.

** There are devotees who are beyond the three gunas. They are eternally devoted to God, like Narada. These devotees behold Krishna as Chinmaya, all spirit, and His abode as Chinmaya, His devotee as Chinmaya.

To them God is eternal, His abode is eternal, His devotee is eternal.

Om Sathguru Shri Seshadri Swamigal Thiruvadikkae

Q) To whom does the Sathpurusha (SathGuru) give the experience of Brahma?

A) It is to him whose mind has become purified and steadfast, one who has a blind faith in God, in any life, past or present. This is the person who receives the Kripa (grace), of his Sathpurusha. He is the one qualified to receive and learn it.

Q) Who is eligible to be a Medium of the SathGuru?

A) There are so many in this world, who need the Sathguru’s help.He helps them through those, who are willing to be the medium of His Love.

To qualify as a medium, the best example to describe the qualities one should posses would be Lord Krishna’s flute, Murali.

If you have the capacity to draw the Lord (Mahan Shri Seshadri Swamigal) to yourself, He will Himself come to you and be with you. Be Like Krishna’s Flute: a hallow reed, straight, light, with no substance to hinder His breathe.

Then, He (Mahan Shri Seshadri Swamigal), will come and pick you up from the ground. He will breathe Divine music through you, playing upon you with delicate touch. He will stick the flute into His sash. He will press His lips on it; he fondles it, favour it and flourishes it. In His hand, the infinitesimal will be transmuted into the infinite; the anu (microcosm) will be transformed into the ghana (heavens).

Here is a story of Lord Krishna’s Flute:

One day Lord Krishna pretended to be fast asleep, with the flute carelessly thrown aside by His side.

Radha approached the fortunate flute and asked it in plaintive terms, “Oh! lucky Murali (Lord Krishna’s Flute), tell me how you earned this great good fortune. What was the vow you observed, the vigil you kept, the pilgrimage you accomplished? What was the mantra you recited, the idol you worshipped?” The Flute spoke, by His grace: “I rid myself of all sensual desire, of envy greed and ego – that is all. I had no feeling of ego left to obstruct the flow of His love through me to all creation.”

While everyone is identical with the divine, few realize it.

Realize your breathe is answering the question correctly and live in the consciousness that you are a wave of the He, that is the infinite consciousness, that is Guru or God.

If you shed your pride and really surrender to a Sathpurusha, then, He can do everything for you and elevate you.

Let your mind have no waves; let it be silent, level, and calm – so that the HAMSA can sport thereon. Then you will become a Medium!

Om Sathguru Sri Seshadri Swamigal Thiruvadikkae

A Sathpurusha is essentially the Parameshwara, and is capable of anything. The devotee also possesses the state of Parameshwara. If the devotee strives sincerely in his pursuit of God, the Sathpurusha will do whatever it takes to get you there.

If you desire to have that Godhead, you have to serve the One who has already reached that state. Worship God, and God will help you. And thus you will raise yourself to a state even higher to that of Parameshwara.

Ways to endear the Guru and the Lord: A Good Life

We should always worship Him.

We should abide by Truth and Non-violence.

We should practise Charity.

We should seek the company of good men.

We should fulfill the duties imposed by our station in life.

We should carry out penances involving the three tools (mind, speech, and body).

We should not discard the practices laid down from ages past.

We should stay away from people who mean ill-will.

We should not lose faith with in our Guruji’s mantra.

We should not ridicule our Guru.

These will confer blessings in the present life and future.

Om Sathguru Shri Seshadri Swamigal Thiruvadikkae” is our way to God…
