Grace

Om Sathguru Sri Seshadri Swamigal Thiruvadikkae

There are many saints, who leaving their houses, stay in forest, caves or hermitage and in solitude, in order to get liberation or salvation for themselves. They do not care for other people and are always self-absorbed.

SathPurushas (the Incarnations of God), are not of such a type. Rare are the sadhus and saints, who, after attaining God-vision, strive for the welfare of the people. SathPurushas mentioned in “Some Sathpurushas”, are the best examples.

“Blessed is the country, blessed is the family and blessed are the chaste parents, where these Extraordinary, Transcendent, precious and pure jewels were born.”

“Better than reading is hearing, and better than hearing is seeing. One understands the scriptures better by hearing them from the lips of the Guru. Then one does not have to think about their non-essential part.”

When Grace comes, the stream of remembrance flows into the mind continuously, and everything necessary is done to maintain the remembrance. The remembrance must be unbroken like a “thaila dhara”, which means the flow of oil. When oil is poured from one vessel to another, you see it flows unbroken. The moment there is a break in the remembrance of God, at once the ego-sense takes possession of us and darkness sets in.

Some people open the windows of their heart to receive Grace while some others keep them closed and they do not get it. But even to keep the windows of the heart open requires some inner aspiration and longing, and that longing can come to us only through the Grace of God. This is true because we see that all do not want to keep the windows open. We keep them shut. The result is we do not enjoy the benefit of Grace.

Therefore, it is not that Grace is not on us, but we are not prepared to receive it.

The ways of Grace are indeed mysterious!!

THE TRUE DISCIPLE’S SPIRITUAL ARDOUR

As for as my work is concerned, it is finished. I am here just for you. I do all that I can do, and you do all that you can do, to prevent it. It is a tug of war. It is a conflict between master and the disciple. Remember that it is a conflict. The disciple remains contradictory in his desire.

He wants to become enlightened as he is. He does not want to change that. This is the contradiction. You would like to go to heaven, but as you are. That is impossible.

I understand the question and desire. Yes, you would like to become enlightened very cheaply, without going through any pain, any suffering. Growth comes through suffering. It comes through great pain, it is arduous. One has to pay for it. And the payment is not in money, the payment is very deep. The payment is your innermost sacrifice.

The disciple has to disappear. You must cooperate a little. And I know that sometimes you cooperate, but your cooperation is also only cooperation in appearance. Deep down you remain resistant.

Even while you surrender, you go on watching from the corner of your eyes- how far to go? – And you go only so far, and you go with absolute control that if it is needed you can go back. Your surrender is not a journey of any return.

And unless it is a journey of no return, it is impossible for me to help you. I do not make any condition for you. The cloud is so full that it wants to rain; it does not mater whether it is a desert, or it is a wasteland, or it is a fertile soil- it does not matter.

Enlightenment is possible. If it is possible for me, it is possible for you. If it has happened to one human being, it is everybody’s potentiality.

SPIRITUAL MASTERS (SATHGURUS) AND GREAT SPIRITUAL MASTERS (AVATHARS)

When the Spiritual Master (Sathguru) climbs down, he does not lose anything because he knows that at the next moment he will be able to climb up again. Suppose a child at the foot of the tree says: “Please give me a fruit; please give me a most delicious mango.” Immediately the Master will bring one down and then he will climb up again. And if nobody else asks for a mango, he will sit on the branch and wait. Here on earth, if one human being has something to offer and the other person does not take it, then the first person gets furious. He says “You fool! It is for your own good that I am giving it.” He will scold the other person and be very displeased if his offering is not accepted. In the case of a spiritual Master,….

(Spiritual Masters are those rare beings who have realised there oneness with the Supreme, – the highest transcendental Consciousness. Spiritual Masters have not only realised their true self but also work selflessly to inspire humanity to seek the divinity within themselves.

A real spiritual Master is able to expedite the progress of his/her disciples through their close connection to God and the grace of God.

Spiritual Masters have taught the timeless spiritual truths in a variety of ways, Their teachings reflecting the environment and period in which they live.

Great Spiritual Masters like Sri Krishna, Buddha , Jesus Christ, Sri Rama, Sri Seshadri Swamigal , Shirdi Sai Baba etc., are avathars (Incarnation of God). Each spiritual master has offered their own unique path towards the highest Truth. However although the outer forms may differ the ultimate realisation is the same. This is a selection of Spiritual Masters who can be of service to aspiring seekers.)

….it is different. He will come with his wealth, but if humanity does not accept it, he will not curse humanity. Even if humanity insults him and speaks ill of him, he will not lodge a complaint against humanity to God. With his boundless patience he will say, “All right, today you are sleeping. Perhaps tomorrow you will get up and see what I have to offer. I will wait for you.” If you are fast asleep and someone pinches you and shouts, “Get up! Get up!” he is not doing you a favour. You will be annoyed. But the spiritual Master will not bother you; he will not ask you to get up. He will stay beside your bed and wait until you get up, and the moment you get up he will ask you to look at the sun.

If he is a real spiritual Master, he will not lose anything if earth rejects what he has, because he is well established in his inner life, in his inner consciousness. Again, if humanity accepts what he offers, he does not lose anything, either. The more he gives, the more he gets from the Source. Just as in the ordinary life the more knowledge we offer to others, the more we get, in the spiritual life also it is the same. A spiritual Master will never run short of Peace, Light and Bliss, because he is connected with the infinite Source of all.

Ordinary aspirants or the so-called Masters have limited capacity. If they give away something, they cannot replace it. But when one is in touch with unlimited capacity in the inner world, his source is like an ocean. One cannot empty the infinite inner ocean. The real Master wants to give everything to his devoted students, but their power of receptivity is limited. So he tries to widen their vessels and make them as big as possible so that the students can receive the Peace, Light and Bliss that he brings for them. But he cannot force an aspirant to receive more than he has the capacity to hold. If he does, then the vessel will give way. So a Master can only pour and pour and pour his infinite Light into his students, but once the limit of their receptivity is reached, it will all be wasted on them.

Spiritual Masters does not believe in explanations. If you go to a Master he starts giving you methods, not doctrines. They give you a method. They say, “WORK ON THE METHOD”. When the method goes deeper, it changes your heart, opens your being, and then you would know.

They will not give you a single doctrine, a single principle-they have none. They have only methodology. They give you the taste. It is hard work.

It is very difficult to find a spiritual master, and he may be living just in your neighbourhood. He may be doing such an ordinary thing you cannot believe it. He may be a weaver, or he may be a shoemaker, or he may be running a hotel, or any kind of work. You cannot even suspect that a spiritual master lives just around the corner – you may come across him every day and you will not have any idea who this man is – UNLESS YOU A SEEKER.

Om Sathguru Sri Seshadri Swamigal Thiruvadikkae

Disciple:

Could you tell me about one of your experiences of the Divine?

Master:

Great divinity lives within man.

When by my Guru’s Grace, I reached the heart centre, (not physical) in meditation I could see the entire cosmos. The heart centre is most wondrous. In that centre I saw and experienced love. I also experienced the centre of knowledge, which is the centre of all arts. From the heart centre I moved up to the centre between the eyes, and that centre would release the most celestial fragrances.

When I reached the cerebral centre-  the highest centre-  I saw the Supreme Light blazing, by a thousand suns. Then I heard the most melodious harmonies in the spaces surrounding the inner sun, and nothing in the outer world can surpass within. I would get into the state of natural Samadhi. In the midst of this light I saw a glorious spectacle – a tiny blue dot – the Blue Pearl.

Man is great, he is sublime, and he is divine. God’s glory lives in him in all its fullness.

Disciple:

What is Surrender?

Master:

Surrender means offering to God the fruits of your actions, not effort and duty. Surrender means to perform your duties faithfully and not be affected by the results, whether they are good or bad, pleasant or painful. Surrender to God means that you do God’s work and follow His law in everything.

Disciple:

Is God is therefore both one and many at the same time?

Master:

Yes, depending on your vantage point. You can see Him as the one, or you can experience Him as the many.

If you look at the sun from the point of view that it is one, you will see it as one. But if you look at the sun’s individual rays, you will see that they are endless. The same is true in relation to God and His Creation.
