THE DRIVER OF THE JEEP PEERSAB FELT DAZED BUT IN HIS STUPOR SAW AN AGED MAN WITH GLOWING BEARDS LIFTING HIS RIGHT ARM.
Shri T.G.Subramanyam, Tahsildar and Shri B. Krishna-Murthy, Revenue Inspector both from Uruvakonda visited Chellagurki when the ‘Navarathri’ celebrations were going on in the ‘Mutt’ during 1964. Their family members and menial staff accompanied them. They stayed at the ‘Mutt’ for the night and worshipped at the Shrine of the Swamiji. Next morning they resumed their journey to Anantapur. On the way two miles from Chellagurki lies the hill, where the Swamiji was first seen in meditation before he entered the village.
The idol of ‘Dandhayudha Pani’ (Lord Muruga or Karthik Swamy) has since been installed on the top of the hill in 1961. The party wanted to offer prayers at the hill. They went up in their jeep. Being strangers, they did not know the area and drove into the well, which is under construction near he temple. The well is 30 feet deep and they went down with the jeep.
One of the servants of the officials who had been left behind ran back to the village to convey the news.
The People of the village rushed to the spot and rescued the entire party. They were in cheerful spirits as nothing had happened to them. They went again to Chellagurki to offer worship at the Shrine of the Saint who had saved them from a certain disaster.
The driver of the jeep peersab felt dazed but in his stupor saw an aged man with glowing beards lifting his right arm!
